Assuming that this is your first child, do keep in mind that in case you have a second child, you will have to send him/her to the same school as well, which would clearly be beyond your means.
Do send him to a good school but do not spend disproportionately on this type of school education. You will be better off saving that money for his higher education which your child will value better when he/she grows up.
Several of these schools end up giving unnecessary amenities like airconditioned classrooms, Olympic-sized swimming pools etc which increases their cost and hence their fees. Also keep in mind that these schools will have frequent expenses over and above your regular fees, such as special days, school trips and excursions etc, which will add up to another 30–40 percent of your school fee. While the trips etc are optional, you will still find it difficult to say NO to your kid, especially when most of his friends will go.
Last but not the least, it is better for your kid to mingle with other kids of similar financial status, so that his/her spending habits/lifestyle choices are in line with your purchasing power.
